What is Individual Counselling?

Individual counselling is working one to one with a counsellor. In these sessions you will have a safe environment to talk about what is going on for you and focus on your goals. You, will have space to explore any issues in an honest, unbiased, objective way. The counsellor will help you to set goals and create objectives to achieve those goals. A step by step treatment plan, which is like a road map of how goals can be met is formulated and agreed.

Individual Counselling is very different from talking with a friend or family member.  Friends and family members may offer good advice, but the problem is, it is hard to stay objective, as they may believe they know what is best for you and they could be wrong.

They might also speak to other friends or family to help you find a solution, which may not be helpful to your situation and in some circumstances damaging. For instance you might confide in a friend and because they do not how to help, they may also seek guidance from another friend or family member, which makes your situation no longer confidential.  Counsellors are trained to work with you in a professional and confidential way, and to help you achieve your goals and heal from past trauma and pain.
